Puppy Socialisation & training

Bouvier puppies should always be taken to a properly structured puppy socialisation class, which will expose them in a graduated and purposeful way to the various stimuli which will help them to develop life skills.  The puppy should be taken along to such classes from the age of about 8 weeks as this is the optimal learning period in their lives. Trainers who use positive reinforcement methods (that is, rewards rather than force or punishment) usually achieve better results with Bouviers, who can be stubborn if they get bored or feel that they are being forced to do something. Trainers who use aggressive methods or training aids such as spike collars, hanging dogs by the choke chain or rolling dogs onto their backs to force “submission” should be avoided as they usually do not achieve good results with Bouviers.
